Trainer Trouble
Thanks for the article “Is Working Out the Newest Health
Threat?” (March). My five training sessions for $200 at
a well-known national gym chain ended up costing me
an additional $500 in co-pays for bruised cartilage in my
wrist. I complained that it hurt, but my trainer never
offered any adjustment or alternative. I canceled my
membership and joined a smaller gym, where I went back
to my boring but safe weight-lifting routine.

As a small-business o wner,
it’s great to see other women

Idol; I look forward to what
she has to say each week.

healthy, delicious recipes.
Ho wever, although your
trail-mix recipe (“Po wer
Food of the Month: Almonds
and Other Nuts,” January/
February) sounds tasty, I
don’t think the nutrition information that was provided
along with it is correct.

No More Munchies
I recently lost 30 pounds.
My biggest challenge has
been avoiding sweets,
so I loved “Control Your
Cravings” (January/
February). My favorite section was “Find Meaningful
Motivation,” because [getting inspired] was a huge
key to my success.

1 Use old panty-hose to erase white
deodorant marks on
your clothes.
2 If the cork on
an unopened wine
bottle appears to
be pushed up, don’t
buy it. When wine
is exposed to heat,
it starts to expand
inside the bottle,
pushing the cork up.
3 Clear minor
drain clogs without
chemicals: Pour in
a handful of baking
soda and a cup of
white vinegar, let it
sit for three to five
minutes, then flush
with hot water.
4 To trap insects
in your basement,
lay a strip of duct
tape, sticky side up,
along the edge of
the floor. The damp
air will make the
tape stickier and
better at catching
creepy-crawlies.
5 If Fido sheds all
over your couch,
just rub down the
fabric with a clean,
dry rubber glove.
The pet hair will
clump together in
your hand.
6 Loosen microwave gunk: Place
a bowl of water
inside and nuke for
10 to 15 seconds.
Spray the inside of
the machine with
kitchen cleaner, and
any food debris will
wipe out easily.
7 Keep deli meat
from getting slimy:
Ditch the plastic
bag it came in, but
keep the paper
wrapping and cover
that with tinfoil.
